Research Interests

My name is Hamid Mansoor and I completed a doctorate in Computer Science at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. My advisor was Prof. Emmanuel Agu and I was a part of the DARPA funded Warfighter Analytics using Smartphone Health (WASH) project. My research interests are at the intersection of Data Visualization, Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing and Visual Representations of Text-based Data. I have researched, designed and implemented several interactive data visualization frameworks that enable analysts to solve various issues encountered while analyzing mobile and ubiquitously gathered human behavior data.

I am an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at The University of Manitoba . Before this, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the VIXI Lab, University of Victoria, Canada, under the mentorship of Prof. Miguel Nacenta. My current research focuses on digital and mobile health, with an emphasis on integrating generative AI, particularly large language models, into smartphone and smartwatch applications. I design and study systems that help people manage chronic conditions (e.g., Parkinson’s disease) and support everyday health and wellness.

***RECRUITMENT***

I am looking for a highly motivated MSc student in Computer Science to start in Winter (Jan) 2027. The student will work on a recently funded project focused on developing and evaluating an AI-enabled digital health tool for stroke prevention, with an emphasis on human-computer interaction, user-centered design, and working with First Nation and Métis communities. The project will involve co-design, prototyping, and evaluation of a mobile stroke risk screening application. The MSc student will contribute primarily to the computer science and digital health aspects of the project, including the adaptation and validation of the Stroke Risk Screen app. If you are interested, please reach out to me via email with your latest transcript, resume, and a short 1-2 paragraph description of your research interests. Please set the subject of your email as: "Prospective MSc Student for Winter 2027", otherwise I will not respond. The deadline to apply to the University of Manitoba MSc program for Canadian and U.S. applicants is October 1, 2026.
